Marvel’s Disney+ Series Hawkeye debuted on Disney+ on November 24, 2021. It features Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon. Alaqua Cox debuted in the series at the end of episode 2. She is playing the role of a deaf Native American woman, Maya Lopez / Echo who has the ability to perfectly copy another person’s movements or fighting style, making her a formidable opponent in battle. Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are attached to write and executive produce the show, with a writers’ room recently being assembled.

In an exclusive with THR, Alaqua talked about her audition experience and how she was welcomed into MCU family.

“I see about 12 people, including the Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, doing the deaf clap where you wave both your hands. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ and they said, ‘Welcome to the Marvel family!’ ”

She also talked about how she felt on set and how everyone supported her.

“Hawkeye is my first experience of acting. Now I’m going to get my own show in the MCU? It’s wild. We had a very fun and adventurous childhood, and our scars on our knees may prove that. “

Marvel Casting head Sarah Finn had high praises for Alaqua Cox.

“Alaqua is one of a kind, absolutely. She went through a large audition process. … We were all rooting for her, from the beginning. We met with quite a few people, and I had the fun of reading with Alaqua. I got to sort of help her get prepared and then got to present her to Kevin and the team. I’m so grateful to them that they had the confidence. She had never acted [professionally] before, but they said, ‘Let’s do it.'”

Marvel’s Disney+ series Echo will start its production in the February of 2022. It is expected to debut on Disney+ in the second quarter of 2023.
