Marvel’s Disney+ shows which have been released till now have made one thing clear, these shows aren’t add-ons but will act as prelude to the Movies. Wanda Vision, while explaining the origins of Wanda Maximoff has managed to transform her into Scarlett Witch by the end of the series. It also introduced three new superheroes to the MCU, Wanda’s twins Billy and Tommy and Monica Rambeau. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has managed to create a strong bond between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, introduce many new comic famous characters like John Walker, Valentina, Isaiah Bradley and transform Falcon into Captain America. But none had the impact that Loki did.
Loki finale changed the direction of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s path. It has managed to introduce the concept of Multiverse and next supervillain, Kang the Conqueror, in a stunning way. Before Loki premiered, Kevin Feige – President of Marvel Studios and CCO of Marvel Entertainment talked about the impact of Loki on MCU:
“It’s tremendously important. It perhaps will have more impact on the MCU than any of the shows thus far. What everybody thought about Wanda Vision, and was sort of true, and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which was sort of true, is even more sort of true for Loki.”
The concept of multiverse will be explored, and the ripple effects of Loki finale will be felt in at least three upcoming MCU films based on the information available till now. It has been reported that after Loki finale aired, Kevin Feige chaired a high-level meeting with the creative team of Marvel Studios to set rules for the multiverse which will be followed in the future films and series.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will tentatively hit screens on 16 December 2021, will not only be Spider Man’s biggest journey but also will be the craziest superhero film ever made, if the rumors are to be believed. Reportedly, nexus event which has occurred in the Loki finale will create havoc in the sacred timeline in No Way Home which opens doors to other worlds. Rumored cast members include Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus (Confirmed by Molina himself), Thomas Haden Church as Sandman from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, Jamie Foxx as electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino from The Amazing Spider-Man duology along with the original cast from the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. It has also been rumored that Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock / Daredevil from Netflix’s highly popular series Daredevil, which has elated millions of fans who were demanding his introduction to the MCU.
This upcoming Spider-Man film, which will potentially be a crossover of all the previous Spider-Man movies, and which will introduce many new iconic comic characters to the MCU, possesses all the qualities of becoming the craziest and one of the best superhero films of all time.
We have already seen the Master of Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange appearing in No Way Home teaser trailer and his efforts to clean up the multiverse mess. It has been strongly rumored that this will directly lead to the next Doctor Strange installment, Dr Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, which will hit screens in March 2022. It has already been confirmed that the movie will primarily deal with the mess created by Scarlett Witch and will be a direct link to the Disney+ Wanda Vision series. It has also been confirmed that Kang the conqueror, one of the sinister deviants of He Who Remains played by Jonathon Majors in Loki finale, will be the main villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. There is not a lot of information regarding this film which will hit screens in the first quarter of 2023.
Multiverse introduction in the Loki finale has brought in new palette to the Marvel’s upcoming slate and lot of excitement to the fans. One thing is for sure, if Marvel manages to deal with the concept of multiverse, which is a very complex area, in a meaningful and exciting way, it’ll become unstoppable and will move light-years ahead from other comic book franchises.
