Marvel’s Echo Gets Its Production Start Date

Marvel Studios is on a roll in phase 4 with more than half a dozen movies ready to hit screens in next 2 years and similar number of TV series which they are developing for its parent company Walt Disney Studios’ streaming service Disney+. Ever since Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige took control of ‘all things related Marvel’ he made it clear that the shows which will be streamed on Disney+ will have direct connect to the movies in Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. All the three series which were released till now on Disney+ have been a huge critical success and proved the fact that the new formula which Marvel Studios is following is working in their favor.

Avengers’ OG member’s series Hawkeye is in its final phases of production and is expected to debut on Disney+ on November 24, 2021. It will feature Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon. Jonathan Igla is attached to write and executive produce.

Alaqua Cox will debut in the series as a deaf Native American woman, Maya Lopez / Echo who has the ability to perfectly copy another person’s movements or fighting style, making her a formidable opponent in battle. Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are attached to write and executive produce the show, with a writers’ room recently being assembled.

There are many rumors surrounding this series and the most exciting one is that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil from Netflix’s blockbuster series of the same name and Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight which will debut on Disney+ in the first quarter of 2022 will have major roles in this series. In comics, Echo crosses paths with characters like Daredevil, Moon Knight and the Avengers.

In the latest casting call by Marvel, it has been mentioned that the production will start mid-February, 2022. They are seeking four female and two male characters. Jessica [F] – 15 - 18 years old, Native American or Latinx, Deaf, Strong, fiercely independent and unwavering, Can tend towards sullen at times and Fluent in ASL.  Bobby [M] - 20s-30s, Native American, Full of life and loves a good joke, but loyal and always there for his family and friends, Hearing, signs with pidgin signed English/PSE. Randall [M] - 50s -60s, Native American, Charismatic, outgoing, likeable and resilient, fluent in ASL. Julie [F] - late 20s/early 30s, Native American. Responsible, resilient and strong willed, Hearing loss, Fluent in ASL. Iris [F] - Late 20s/early 30s, Native American or Latinx, Deaf. Warm and nurturing, Fluent in ASL. Moana [F] - 60s, Native American. Artist. Intuitive, supportive and strong-willed grandmother.

Other upcoming Marvel series on Disney Plus include “Ms. Marvel,” “She-Hulk,” “Moon Knight,” “What If?,” “Secret Invasion,” “Ironheart,” “Armor Wars,” “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and an untitled Wakanda series.
