Major Hollywood Studios trying to keep involvement of certain cast in their blockbuster movies a secret is not a newer trend in Hollywood. But no other studio is as tough and secretive as marvel Studios when it comes to keeping cast and storyline a secret. They even shoot multiple fake scenes and add them into the trailer just to make sure the audience and fans feel excitement of watching a sequence for the first time on big screen in theaters. No matter how hard they try certain information always gets leaked mostly because of the unreal hype which surrounds MCU’s movies.
Ever since MCU Spider-man’s third installment was announced, hype surrounding that movie has been immense mainly because of the rumors which started spreading online about the involvement of cast from previous live action Spidey movies. Few of them were confirmed by the cast itself such as Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. But the most exciting part of these was the involvement of Tobey and Andrew who were rumored to return as Spider-Man/Peter Parker from alternate universes to join hands with MCU’s Spider-Man and fight the villains from their respective universes.
After Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailer released officially, multiple on set pictures of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in their Spider-Man suits with blue backgrounds were leaked online, supposedly from a Russian Forum, which is notoriously famous for Russian hackers and they spread like wild fire on social media.
A twitter user (@/Vixtr0) posted a photo which looked like Andrew Garfield in his Spider-Man suit leaning against a scaffolding. It was taken down and was given a DMCA notice by Sony Pictures. While this confirms involvement of Andrew in No Way Home, many were skeptical to believe because of the fact that no other posts which spread same pics were taken down by Sony.
Recently, a reddit user u/Fire-Dragon15 posted that one of his posts on reddit which showed on set pics of No Way Home were taken down by Sony even though they did not feature either Andrew or Tobey but certainly looked like an extension to the set photos which were leaked previously and which featured Andrew and Tobey. He wrote
“ I posted [this] post about a week ago which showed the background of the Tobey and Andrew leak from a different angle. The photo has now been removed for copyright issues. This is interesting because this particular photo did not even show Tobey and Andrew, or literally any characters for that matter, but was still taken down even though more spoilery set photos like the one with Peter and Dr Strange came out before the trailer did not get taken down. It seems that Sony is cracking down on set photos with any connection to the photo of Tobey and Andrew. I hope you all consider this further evidence that they are in the movie even though we really don’t need any more. “
While this does not confirm the involvement of either Tobey or Andrew it certainly is interesting and fans are excited to see what Marvel and Sony have in store for them.
